Colin Mitchell

Senior Partner

Colin Mitchell is the Senior Partner of McCartan Turkington Breen and has been ranked in the prestigious Chambers & Partners Guide. He is the Junior Vice President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and is former Chairman of the Belfast Solicitors’ Association. Colin is a member of the County Court Rules Committee for Northern Ireland. He is also the Vice-Chairman of the independent complaints panel that oversees the Joint Industry Code for the Responsible Promotion and Retail of Alcohol in Northern Ireland.

Colin is a member of the Legal Working Group for the Credit Hire Organisation, the trade body of the credit hire industry in the UK. He also the editor of the Guide to Liquor Licensing in Northern Ireland, published by Hospitality Ulster. He holds a Certificate in Advanced Advocacy from the Law Society of Northern Ireland and is a Certified Mediator.

Colin graduated from the University of Dundee in 1997 with an Honours Degree in Law and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 1999. He joined McCartan Turkington Breen later that year and was appointed Partner in 2007. Colin became Senior Partner in 2020.

Away from work Colin is a former head of youth rugby at Instonians RFC and is a member of the Northern Ireland Solicitors’ Golf Society. Colin is passionate about projects that help others and has travelled with a local NI charity to build a school in Uganda.
