Priti Patel – did she resign before she was sacked?

The UK International Development Secretary, Priti Patel, resigned from her position on Wednesday amid controversy over her unauthorised meetings with Israeli officials.

Whilst Ms Patel apologised on Monday for undisclosed meetings held whilst on a trip to Israel it transpired that she had further meetings after her return from Israel that she also failed to disclose. This placed the Prime Minister in a difficult situation with regards to Ms Patel’s future in the Cabinet and, had she not resigned, it is thought that the Prime Minister would have sacked her.
