Ryan’s motorcycle accident claim settled for £5,500

Motorbike accident case study
Ryan was riding his beloved Kawasaki motorbike along a main road in Belfast city centre. He was travelling in the bus lane, as he is permitted to as a motorcyclist. A truck pulled out from a side road on Ryan’s left but did not see him. Ryan did not have time to stop and collided with the side of the moving truck. He was thrown from his motorcycle and onto the road. As a result, he suffered several soft tissue injuries and was left very shaken. As an experienced motorcyclist, Ryan knew the importance of investing in quality gear. It is very likely that his injuries would have been significantly worse had he not been wearing his helmet and leathers at the time.
Ryan contacted our motorcycle accident claims department
Ryan contacted us shortly after the accident with a view to seek compensation for his injuries and damage to his gear. He had the benefit of a free initial consultation with James Fay who Ryan went on to instruct with his case. We sent a letter of claim to the truck owner’s insurer who quickly admitted liability. We organised estimates for replacing the motorcycle gear. We also had him examined by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon and a consultant psychiatrist who both provided medical reports that detail the extent of the injuries.
Motorcycle claims & compensation
We invited the insurer to offer a settlement figure but unfortunately, they did not do so in a timely fashion. We therefore issued Court proceedings. Shortly after, the insurer indicated a desire to enter settlement negotiations. They offered a small sum that was dismissed out of hand as unacceptable. After further talks, James settled the matter for the sum of £5,500 to the delight of Ryan.
