Dr Michael Watt: Nearly 1 in 5 Patients Misdiagnosed

Health Minister Robin Swann has stated that almost 20% of patients treated by Consultant Neurologist Dr Michael Watt were given the wrong diagnosis. Mr Swann, who “unreservedly apologised” to patients who have been affected, was speaking as the Belfast Trust announced the recall of a further 209 neurology patients seen and discharged by Dr Watt between 1996 and 2012. The recall is due to begin imminently and is expected to be completed within a number of months.

An Independent Neurology Inquiry was announced in 2018 and has since been elevated to a Statutory Public Inquiry. The Inquiry has not yet started hearing evidence..

It was reported in 2020 that over 200 litigation cases have been brought in relation to treatment provided by Dr Watt.

Solicitors at McCartan Turkington Breen are currently acting for a number of Dr Watt’s former patients in relation to misdiagnoses and invasive treatments. If you require any advice please contact Harry McAleese on 02890329801 or harrym@mtb-law.co.uk for a free initial consultation.
