As part of the consultation process a number of areas were identified that needed to be dealt with by the new Domestic Abuse Bill. These include, among other things: protections being put in place to protect complainants from being cross examined by their alleged abusers; a statutory definition of domestic abuse that will include non-physical and economic abuse; the creation of a Domestic Abuse Commissioner; and the provision for a new Domestic Abuse Protection Notice and Domestic Abuse Protection Order.

The draft Domestic Abuse Bill will now be taken forward for pre-legislative scrutiny before being made law.
