We donated £1,000 to Lagan Dragons boat club

Lagan Dragons is Northern Ireland’s first dragon boat club for people affected either directly or indirectly by Breast Cancer.

We are pleased to support the team with a donation of £1,000 to go towards their equipment and kit.

Karen Dougan, club captain of the Lagan Dragons, joined us to express her thanks and receive the donation from Stephen Clark, our Senior Partner. They were accompanied by Lesley Jennings, our valued colleague and Lagan Dragons team member.

What inspired the creation of the Lagan Dragons club?

Research has demonstrated that participation in regular, repetitive and strenuous activity (such as dragon boating) in a socially supportive environment offers benefits for those who have undergone breast cancer surgery.

Aware of this research and the success of dragon boat clubs in Canada, USA and England, a Belfast-based club was formed by Joanne Rock in 2015.

Although they are primarily a breast cancer survivors club, they have Community Amateur Sports Club status and as such are open to the whole community – this also includes non breast cancer individuals.
