MTB Secure £5million Compensation in Clinical Negligence Claim

MTB Solicitor, Harry McAleese, acted for the family of a six-year-old boy who developed severe cerebral palsy as a result of complications surrounding his birth at Altnagelvin Hospital in 2012. The Western Health and Social Care Trust accepted liability shortly before the case was due to go to trial and a settlement was negotiated.

The settlement, in which the total compensation is expected to reach almost £5million, will enable the family to provide care and specialist assistance for the lifetime of the young boy. The settlement, which was approved at the High Court in Belfast by Mr Justice Maguire, is believed to be one of the biggest of its kind in Northern Ireland.

Mr McAleese commented “The family are delighted and relieved at the outcome of this long-running case. The settlement will enable them to provide the necessary support and comfort for their child.”
