Penalty points – do you know your limits?

Penalty points are a concern to all drivers but new drivers must be extremely careful given that their licence will be cancelled (revoked) if they get 6 or more penalty points within 2 years of passing their test.

If your licence is cancelled within 2 years of passing your test, you will have to apply and pay for a new provisional licence, as well as passing both the theory and the practical parts of the driving or riding test again to get a full licence.

For other drivers (those who have held their licence for more than 2 years) a total of 12 penalty points in any 3 year period will lead to a ban from driving which could last for 6 months.
