The first storm of the season has hit Northern Ireland and it has certainly taken its toll. Trees have fallen all over the country blocking roads, damage to electricity lines has been extensive, various modes of transport were either delayed or cancelled, and damage has occurred to homes and various buildings.
If your property has been damaged as a direct result of the storm, your buildings and contents insurance policy is likely to cover financial loss caused by storm damage and so you should make a claim through it. In most circumstances no-one is to blame for an “Act of God”. If, however, you have been injured, or your property has been damaged, as a result of debris coming off buildings due to wind damage you may have a claim. In such circumstances you must be able to show that the damage was only caused because the property of others was not adequately maintained and should have been able to withstand the effects of the storm.
If you have been affected by the storm, please contact MTB Solicitors and we will advise you as to whether or not you have a claim.
Stay safe out there!
